For decades we've trained labor unions, apprenticeship programs, benefit funds, employers, and employer associations on the laws that shape their daily decisions. Choose from established programs or let us design a curriculum around your organization's needs.
Our workshops are one of the main places in our practice where we work with both labor organizations and employers. Unions, apprenticeship programs, labor associations, and benefit funds rely on us for the legal education their officers and trustees need. Employers and employer associations bring us in for substantive supervisor and management training that holds up under scrutiny.
We've built a library of programs we deliver regularly — from organizing strategy to fiduciary governance to annual law updates. We also design custom curricula around the specific legal questions, operational realities, and goals each client brings to us. Every program is taught by attorneys who litigate, negotiate, and advise on these issues every day.
Whether you choose an established program or ask us to build something new, the goal is the same: send your people back to work knowing what the law expects, what their options are, and what decisions belong to them.
Programs We Offer
A representative sample of the workshops we deliver. These are starting points — most engagements blend topics or are built from scratch around a specific audience and objective.
Building campaigns that work — and hold up to legal scrutiny.
An advanced session for organizing directors, lead organizers, and committee members on lawful campaign tactics, employer response patterns, and the regulatory framework that governs every step. We cover authorization cards, recognition pathways, lawful concerted activity, and how to document conduct that may give rise to unfair labor practice charges.

First Amendment and Union Strategy
Knowing where speech, picketing, and protest are protected — and where they aren't.
A practical examination of First Amendment doctrine as it intersects with union activity: picketing, leafletting, bannering, social media advocacy, and political speech in the workplace. Attendees leave with a clearer sense of where the line sits between protected expression and conduct that exposes the organization to liability.
The Dos and Don'ts of Union Elections
A clear-eyed walkthrough of NLRB election procedure for every stakeholder.
Designed for both labor and management audiences, this workshop translates NLRB procedure into operational guidance. Topics include campaign communications, supervisor conduct, voter eligibility, election day logistics, and post-election objections. The goal is to help participants understand the rules, anticipate potential issues, and protect the integrity of the election process.
Union Steward & Business Agent Training
Practical labor-law training for the people representing workers every day.
Training for stewards, business agents, and union officers covering grievance handling, workplace investigations, representation rights, contract enforcement, strikes and picketing, handbilling and bannering, protected concerted activity, and other day-to-day labor issues.
Governance and Fiduciary Trainings
Built for trustees, officers, and administrators of benefit funds.
Trustees of jointly administered funds carry significant fiduciary duties under ERISA and applicable plan documents. This program covers fiduciary duties, the duty of loyalty, the prudent expert standard, prohibited transactions, investment oversight, service provider selection, and the documentation practices that make those duties demonstrable in audit and litigation.
Sexual Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation Training
Substantive compliance training that goes well beyond a checkbox.
Tailored sessions for supervisors, HR, union officers, and rank-and-file audiences covering Title VII, state and local civil rights statutes, hostile work environment standards, and retaliation protections. We address bystander obligations, reporting channels, investigation expectations, and the operational decisions that most often determine outcomes.
Best Practices for Management
What supervisors need to know to lead lawfully and effectively.
A practical curriculum for front-line supervisors, managers, and HR partners covering documentation, discipline, accommodation requests, leave administration, performance management, and the day-to-day decisions that drive both legal exposure and workplace culture. Programs focus on practical decision-making that helps organizations comply with the law while fostering effective and respectful workplaces.
New Year, New Labor & Employment Laws to Know
An annual briefing on the legislative and regulatory landscape ahead.
Each year brings new statutes, regulations, and case law at the federal, state, and local levels. This briefing distills what changed, what is changing, and what your organization should be doing differently — delivered with the practical context that turns updates into action items.
Customized Programs
Training can be tailored to your organization's industry, workforce, legal obligations, and current workplace challenges—from annual compliance programs to intensive workshops for union leadership, supervisors, and HR professionals.
The MKR Advantage
Why organizations bring us in
Both Sides of the Table
We train labor and management — and that range gives our programs a depth and balance you won't get from a firm that only sees one side.
Custom by Default
Most of our workshops are built around your audience, your industry, and the decisions your people actually face. Off-the-shelf is the exception.
Taught by Practitioners
Every program is delivered by attorneys who litigate, negotiate, and advise on these issues daily — the framework is grounded in current practice, not last decade's casebook.
Frequently Asked
Training questions, answered
What to expect when you bring MKR in to train your people.
Who attends MKR training programs?
Our trainings serve labor unions, apprenticeship programs, labor associations, benefit fund trustees, employers, and employer associations. The content is calibrated to the audience — there is no one-size-fits-all curriculum, and the same topic looks different in front of a board of trustees, a class of new supervisors, or an organizing committee.
Can you build a program tailored to our organization?
Yes. While we offer a library of established programs, the majority of our workshops are designed around the specific legal landscape, operational realities, and goals of the client. Tell us what you need your people to walk away knowing — we will build the curriculum to get them there.
How long is a typical workshop?
Sessions range from a focused 60-minute briefing for executives or stewards to a full-day deep dive for trustees, supervisors, or organizing committees. We scope length to the material and the audience rather than forcing content into a fixed slot.
Where are workshops delivered?
We deliver in person at your offices, hall, training center, or off-site venue, and remotely via video conference. Hybrid formats are available for organizations with multiple sites or distributed leadership.
Do attendees receive materials?
Every program includes plain-language reference materials, checklists where appropriate, and a written summary of the legal framework so attendees can apply what they learn after the session ends. We want the training to keep working long after the room clears.
How do we get started?
Reach out with a short description of your audience and what you want them to walk away knowing. We will recommend an existing program, scope a custom curriculum, or combine both — along with a timeline and proposal.
