Terrance B. McGann

Terrance B. McGann is a Partner at McGann, Ketterman & Rioux, where he has practiced since 2010. Mr. McGann concentrates his practice in labor and employment law, civil rights law, and employee benefits law.

Mr. McGann has extensive experience in the day-to-day practice of labor law, having decades of experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements and related labor agreements and representing clients in hundreds of unfair labor practice proceedings, union elections, organizing campaigns, and other complex labor matters. His practice encompasses the full range of labor relations, including collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance and arbitration proceedings, organizing and representation matters, and strategic labor negotiations.

Mr. McGann has also been at the forefront of developing project labor agreements for emerging industries and large-scale construction projects, including renewable energy projects and data centers. As these industries have expanded, he has worked with unions and contractors to develop innovative labor frameworks addressing workforce needs, diversity and inclusion, project requirements, and the evolving regulatory and economic landscape.

He has lectured and written extensively on First Amendment rights in labor disputes, Title VII litigation, the impact of social media in employer relations, contract negotiation strategies, federal preemption of state statutes, and litigation and arbitration tactics. Mr. McGann is a regular guest lecturer for Chicago-Kent College of Law and a frequent speaker for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and Illinois Continuing Legal Education Programs.

Mr. McGann serves as an Arbitrator for the AFL-CIO Metal Trades Department, a position he has held since 1998. He has been a member of the Chicago-Kent College of Law Institute for Law and the Workplace since 2002 and has consulted as an expert witness in a wide range of labor and employment disputes. Additionally, Mr. McGann has served as Director of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority since 2011 and Director of Navy Pier, Inc. since 2022.

Mr. McGann has also volunteered as a tutor for the Lawyers Lend A Hand Youth Program since 2019. His commitment to education and mentorship extends throughout his professional and volunteer activities, combining practical legal expertise with a dedication to developing the next generation of labor and employment practitioners. Mr. McGann is licensed to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, numerous U.S. district courts and federal appellate courts throughout the country, and he is a long-standing member of the Federal Trial Bar.
